Despite the global economic crisis and the challenging period for Bahrain in 2011, the Kingdom of Bahrain continued to secure significant foreign investment throughout the year, with a significant number of businesses setting up in the Kingdom through the direct outreach activities carried out by the Economic Development Board (EDB).

Last year saw the EDB attract nearly twenty international businesses from around the globe and bring approximately US$300 million dollars of investments in to the country, whilst the number of financial services businesses with Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) licenses rose from 401 to 414. Furthermore, the Kingdom’s economy grew approximately 2% last year, despite the global economic and regional challenges, and is forecast to expand at around 4% in 2012.

Manama, Economic Development Board, 29 January 2012:  Notz, Stucki & Cie S.A., the Geneva-based asset management firm, today announced that it had selected Bahrain as the location for its regional office for the Middle East.  The Notz Stucki Group is one of the largest independent asset management companies in Europe, with $7.5 billion of assets under management.

19 January 2012, Manama:  The Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) is pleased to announce that AeroThrust Holdings LLC, USA has formally concluded a joint venture agreement with Bahraini partners to establish AeroThrust Gulf Aviation Services W.L.L in Bahrain. This follows a proactive outreach and consultation process by the EDB to support the decision to invest in Bahrain, as well as continuing support around the registration process. The announcement was made today at the second Bahrain International Airshow, and the Bahrain Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) has also declared its support for the venture.

15 January 2012, Manama:  Bahrain remains the MENA region’s most economically free country, according to the annual Index of Economic Freedom published by The Heritage Foundation and Wall Street Journal, and the only MENA country to score in the top 20. Ranked 12th out of 184 economies worldwide, Bahrain’s economic freedom score of 75.2 is well above the world average.
